Why the Same Wedding Costs Differently Across Italy
Italy wedding cost by region, for 50 to 100 guests, looks like this in the 2026 planner guides we read for this article: a Tuscan estate wedding for 100 guests at roughly 65,000 to 128,000 EUR, a Ravello hotel wedding for 50 to 80 guests at 80,000 to 120,000 EUR, a premium Puglia masseria wedding for 100 guests from about 80,000 EUR, and a Lake Como villa wedding for up to 50 guests at 70,000 to 150,000 EUR. Per guest, Lake Como comes out highest, Tuscany and Puglia lowest, and the Amalfi Coast depends on whether your venue is a hotel that has to be bought out.
The venue model explains more of the gap than the map does. A villa rented by the day with the rooms elsewhere, an estate taken over for three nights, a cliffside hotel with a room block and a masseria weekend are four different contracts, and each one pulls catering, transport and accommodation in a different direction.
Konstantyn Zakhariy and Mariya Gritsak are based at Lake Como and have photographed weddings from Villa Bonomi on the lake to Borgo Santandrea on the Amalfi Coast. This article compares the four regions on venue, catering, transport, fees and photography, then explains why the lake sits at the top.

Venue Models: Villa Rental, Estate Buyout or Cliffside Hotel
Lake Como: villa rental by the day. Most lake villas are rented for the event, with catering from an outside company and guests sleeping in hotels around Cernobbio, Bellagio or Tremezzo. WeddingItaly's Lake Como cost guide, on a page carrying a 2026 copyright, lists event only rental at 15,000 to 60,000 EUR, including Villa del Balbianello at 15,000 to 30,000 and Villa Balbiano at 20,000 to 60,000, while a full Villa Balbiano buyout with rooms runs 120,000 to 198,000.
Tuscany: the estate buyout. Tuscany sells nights, not days. One Italian planner's 2026 Tuscany guide puts a full borgo for 60 to 80 guests over three nights from about 27,000 to 30,000 EUR, a castle for one day at 12,000 to 18,000 EUR and a weekend castle buyout with luxury rooms at over 60,000 EUR, with buyouts typically running two or three nights. The Weddings Abroad Guide puts country villas with accommodation at 4,000 to 10,500 EUR per day, often with a two or three night minimum.
Amalfi Coast: the cliffside hotel. Here the space fee is small and the rooms are the real number. A 2026 Ravello cost guide from the same planner lists the Terrace of Infinity at Villa Cimbrone at about 8,500 EUR, and a two night buyout of all 19 hotel rooms at about 65,000 EUR. The Wagner Gardens at Belmond Hotel Caruso cost about 3,050 EUR with a minimum of eight rooms booked. Villa Eva, which works with external caterers, is priced in the same guide at 60,000 to 100,000 EUR all in for 60 to 80 guests.
Puglia: the masseria weekend. A masseria is a fortified farm estate, and many now run as hotels. The same planner's Puglia budget for 2026 and 2027 puts a single day at about 6,000 EUR, a multi day buyout at over 20,000 EUR and prestigious estates at 30,000 to 60,000 EUR for a long weekend, with many luxury venues asking a two to three night minimum, especially in June, July and September.
Catering, Transport and Permits Region by Region
Catering per head. The catering band is narrower than the venue band. WeddingItaly gives Lake Como at 150 to 300 EUR or more per guest, and the Weddings Abroad Guide 200 to 300 EUR plus 50 to 100 EUR for drinks. Planner guides list Tuscany at 150 to 300 EUR, with an open bar at about 12 EUR per person per hour, and Puglia at 150 to 350 EUR. The outlier is the Amalfi hotel: in Ravello, dinner starts from 300 EUR per person at Villa Cimbrone and runs 330 to 407 EUR at Belmond Caruso, with wine at roughly 40 to 80 EUR, while external caterers at Villa Eva or Palazzo Confalone charge 150 to 300 EUR.
Transport: boats against stairs. At Lake Como your guests move by water or by coach on narrow lakeside roads. Navigazione Laghi, the public ferry operator, charters its fleet outside scheduled service from 1,800 EUR plus 10% VAT, quoting a 105 seat Rondine series motorboat available for eight hours with at most four of sailing. In Tuscany everyone drives or you hire coaches: planners budget 1,000 to 3,000 EUR of shuttles for 50 to 100 guests over a weekend. In Puglia the distances between masseria, towns and airport are longer, and his shuttle line is 3,000 to 8,000 EUR.
The Amalfi Coast is the hard one. Positano logistics guides describe a pedestrian centre, a private transfer from Naples airport of about 90 to 110 EUR and an hour door to door, and a small pier that closes when the sea is rough, while the Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi ferry line generally runs only from mid May to mid October. For Ravello, his guide lists a minibus from Naples airport at 200 to 300 EUR per vehicle and round trip transfers for 40 guests at 800 to 1,500 EUR.
Permits and fees. The city of Como celebrates civil weddings at Palazzo Cernezzi at no charge, and at Villa Olmo, in the Sala Ovale or the Tempietto in the park, for 500 EUR, according to Espansione TV in March 2024. Ravello's municipal fees plus document costs run 500 to 1,500 EUR in one 2026 planner guide. Add the SIAE music licence, 268 to 574 EUR in his Tuscany guide, and check VAT on every line: 22% on most services, 10% on food and venue rentals. If logistics decide your choice, our Amalfi Coast vs Lake Como comparison goes deeper on travel and timing.
Why Lake Como Sits at the Premium End
Put the samples side by side and the pattern is clear. One 2026 planner guide prices a medium tier Tuscan wedding for about 50 guests at 45,000 to 80,000 EUR, and 30 to 50 guests at Palazzo Confalone or Villa Eva in Ravello at 40,000 to 65,000 EUR. WeddingItaly's intimate Lake Como wedding, up to 50 guests, is 70,000 to 150,000 EUR. The lake starts roughly where Tuscany finishes.
Three things drive that. First, the venue model: 15,000 to 60,000 EUR of event only rental buys the villa for one day, and your guests still pay for hotel rooms, whereas the Tuscan borgo at 27,000 to 30,000 EUR includes three nights of beds. Second, the water: a chartered boat from 1,800 EUR plus VAT is only the start, because many villas also need water taxis for the couple, coaches for guests who prefer the road and a wet weather plan for both. Third, demand: the Weddings Abroad Guide notes that venues at Lake Como, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast may set minimum guest numbers in peak season.
Where the lake is not more expensive: dinner. Lake Como catering at 150 to 300 EUR sits in the Tuscan band and below the Ravello hotels, and the Como town hall is free where Ravello charges 500 to 1,500 EUR. So a lake villa and a Ravello hotel buyout for 80 guests may come out closer than their reputations suggest. For the look and feel side of that decision, read Lake Como vs Tuscany for your wedding and our guide to Puglia as a wedding destination.
Photography is the one line that barely moves with the region. The published ranges overlap: Ravello from about 3,000 to 8,000 EUR or more, Tuscany 5,000 to 15,000 EUR or more, Puglia 6,000 to 18,000 EUR for top tier packages, and photography with video at Lake Como from 8,000 to 25,000 EUR or more in WeddingItaly's guide. Our weddings start from 7,000 EUR, always with both of us, on film and digital, and we photograph a limited number of weddings each year. To see how a cliffside hotel photographs, look through Becca and Timothy's Amalfi Coast wedding at Borgo Santandrea, and when you have narrowed the region and a date, check your date with us and tell us the venue model you are weighing.
Frequently Asked Questions About Italy Wedding Costs by Region
What is the cheapest region in Italy for a destination wedding?
The Weddings Abroad Guide names Umbria, Le Marche and parts of Puglia as better value than Tuscany, Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast and Venice, and one Puglia planner guide starts a single masseria day at about 6,000 EUR. At the premium end the gap narrows: the same guide says Puglia's time as the affordable alternative has passed, with 100 guest weddings typically from about 80,000 EUR.
Is Lake Como more expensive than the Amalfi Coast?
Usually yes at the venue line and no at the dinner line. A Lake Como event only villa rental is 15,000 to 60,000 EUR in WeddingItaly's 2026 guide, while Ravello space fees run about 3,050 to 8,500 EUR before room conditions. But Ravello hotel dinners start around 300 EUR per person against 150 to 300 EUR at the lake, and a two night Villa Cimbrone buyout at about 65,000 EUR takes an Amalfi wedding into lake territory.
How much does a Tuscany wedding cost for 80 guests?
Between two 2026 planner samples: 45,000 to 80,000 EUR for about 50 guests and 65,000 to 128,000 EUR for 100. For 80 guests at a borgo rented for three nights from about 27,000 to 30,000 EUR, with catering at 150 to 300 EUR per head, a realistic planning range is roughly 60,000 to 110,000 EUR. That is our reasoning from the published lines, not a quote.
Is Puglia cheaper than Lake Como for a wedding?
For the same guest count at a comparable level, usually yes, mainly because a masseria buyout includes rooms and a lake villa rental does not. A prestigious masseria long weekend is 30,000 to 60,000 EUR in one planner guide, while a full Villa Balbiano buyout with rooms is 120,000 to 198,000 EUR in WeddingItaly's. Puglia's transport line is higher, at 3,000 to 8,000 EUR of shuttles, because distances are long.
Does photography cost more in some regions of Italy?
Not by region. The published ranges for Ravello, Tuscany, Puglia and Lake Como overlap, and the price follows the photographer's level and team size. Our weddings start from 7,000 EUR with two photographers, and we confirm the full quote for your venue and dates when you get in touch.
