Villa del Balbianello Wedding Cost: The FAI Tariff Explained

How FAI Prices a Wedding at Balbianello

A Villa del Balbianello wedding cost starts at 4,200 EUR plus 22% VAT for a two hour ceremony of up to 10 people while the villa is open to visitors, according to the 2027 FAI rental table. A private six hour wedding for up to 100 guests is listed at 28,900 EUR plus VAT, and a Monday or Wednesday dinner for up to 130 on the lake terrace at 70,500 EUR plus VAT.

FAI prices a Balbianello wedding on three variables: how long you stay (two, three or six hours), whether the villa is still open to visitors, and how many people attend, children included. Those figures are rental only. Catering, boats, chairs, the marquee and the town hall all sit on top, and that is where most budgets drift.

The table was published in February 2026 by the wedding planning firm Italian Lakes Wedding as the base rates FAI released for 2026 and 2027. FAI (Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano) has managed the villa on the Lavedo peninsula since 1988. Treat every number here as a published base rate, not a quote: your final figure comes from FAI through your planner and depends on the day and the format.

Konstantyn Zakhariy and Mariya Gritsak have photographed weddings and elopements at Balbianello, and this guide reads the tariff the way they plan a day there: each line buys a block of time, a set of terraces and a certain light. Below you will find how open days, closed days and guest numbers move the price, the extras missing from a first quote, and how your slot shapes the photographs. For the wider budget, our Italy destination wedding cost breakdown for 2026 puts the venue in context.

Open or Closed Days, Guest Numbers and Time Windows

In the main season, Villa del Balbianello opens to visitors from 10:00 to 18:00 and closes to the public on Mondays and Wednesdays. The tariff follows that calendar with three columns: villa open to the public, villa closed from 6pm, and villa closed on Monday and Wednesday. Which column you land in matters more than almost anything else on the sheet.

The open hours column is the entry point, and in 2027 it only goes up to 30 people. Two hours cost 4,200 EUR for up to 10 people and 5,500 EUR for up to 30, and three hours for up to 30 cost 6,400 EUR. Italian Lakes Wedding notes that ceremonies with more than 50 people are allowed only when the villa is closed, and that children always count toward the total.

From 6pm the villa is yours, and guest numbers start to matter less than privacy. Two hours run from 8,200 EUR for up to 10 people to 12,900 EUR for up to 100. Three hours run from 11,100 EUR for up to 30 to 16,100 EUR for up to 100. In the two and three hour formats, the sharpest jump sits between columns, not rows: 30 people for two hours cost 5,500 EUR during opening hours and 10,400 EUR after 6pm.

The six hour format is sold from 6pm on any day, or on Mondays and Wednesdays with the time to be agreed. It costs 15,700 EUR for up to 30 people, 18,500 EUR for up to 50, 23,000 EUR for up to 70 and 28,900 EUR for up to 100. In the 2027 table the two and three hour formats are not offered on the closed days, so a Monday or Wednesday wedding means booking the full six hours.

Each window also buys a set of spaces. Two hours give you Loggia Durini for the ceremony and the garden for photos. Three hours add Loggia Segrè, indoors and outdoors, or the Camphor Terrace for an aperitif.

Six hours combine the ceremony, the Camphor Terrace aperitif, Loggia Segrè and the garden. The largest format, for up to 130 people on Mondays and Wednesdays only, adds the lake terrace for dinner and Loggia Segrè for dancing.

FAI lists Loggia Durini for ceremonies of 80 to 100 people with a maximum of 60 seats, so beyond 60 guests part of your group will stand. For how those spaces work on the day, see our guide to Villa del Balbianello ceremony options.

Extras Missing from the Quote: Chairs, Marquee, Boats and Town Hall Fees

Every figure in the FAI table carries 22% VAT, which turns the 18,500 EUR six hour rate for 50 people into 22,570 EUR before a single chair is placed. Rates also rose roughly 8 to 13% between the 2026 and 2027 tables, so make sure any quote names the year it applies to. The other extras below come from the notes Italian Lakes Wedding publishes with the table and from FAI's visitor information.

Ceremony chairs are not included and run about 10 EUR plus VAT each. Loggia Durini takes a maximum of 60 seats, so a full set adds around 600 EUR plus VAT. Any event longer than three hours requires housekeeping at 300 EUR plus VAT.

Using Loggia Segrè triggers a compulsory enclosure with its own fee, and for dinner in poor weather a marquee is often compulsory. On the 130 guest lake terrace package, the table lists the platform and marquee as mandatory, and the 70,500 EUR figure is rental only.

Food, drink, lighting and music come from a limited list of approved suppliers, and none of them are in the rental. If you want to dance past the six hours, an extension to 2:00 a.m. is available on request at an additional fee. A room for the newlyweds, for the afternoon or the night, is also an extra. Saturdays are priced higher than other days, so ask whether a weekend supplement applies to your quote.

Boats are the extra couples underestimate. Guests arrive on foot or by water, and FAI describes the walk from Lenno as 1 km uphill, partly on gravel, about 25 minutes, and not suitable for strollers or anyone with walking difficulties. The taxi boat from Lido di Lenno is a paid service that FAI does not run and that must be booked ahead, and private boats are also permitted. For a wedding in formal clothes, plan boats both ways for every guest and ask operators to quote the whole timetable, arrival and return.

A legal civil ceremony adds the town hall fee and an interpreter, both paid outside the FAI rental. The villa's address is in the municipality of Tremezzina, which sets its civil wedding tariffs by municipal resolution and confirmed them from January 2024 until further notice. A symbolic ceremony replaces those costs with a celebrant's fee. Our guide to how a civil ceremony works at Lake Como covers the paperwork.

How the Length of Your Slot Shapes the Photo Plan

The slot length is the real brief for your photographer. Two hours at Balbianello is enough for the ceremony on Loggia Durini, congratulations and a focused portrait walk through the garden, as long as family groups are listed in advance and photographed quickly by the loggia. Ask your photographer to be on the dock for the boat arrival: the approach to the Lavedo point, with the loggia above the water, is one of the strongest frames of the day.

During opening hours you share the paths with visitors until 18:00, so portraits need patience and a photographer who knows where to stand. After 6pm the garden is empty, and the season decides the light. In Como the sun sets a little after 21:15 at the June solstice and around 19:20 at the September equinox. A 6pm ceremony in June keeps daylight through a two or three hour slot, while the same start at the September equinox leaves about an hour and twenty minutes before sunset, so portraits should follow the ceremony immediately.

Three hours change the rhythm. While guests move to the Camphor Terrace or Loggia Segrè for the aperitif, we take you away for twenty minutes of portraits and come back for the group. Six hours let the evening breathe: ceremony and portraits in the last light, then dinner in Loggia Segrè after dark. On a Monday or Wednesday the six hours are placed by agreement, the one format where you choose the light rather than follow it.

If the full rental is out of reach, Italian Lakes Wedding suggests holding the ceremony elsewhere on the lake and arriving by boat for photos afterwards. FAI requires wedding photo sessions to be paid and booked, and Italian Lakes Wedding notes they can only be reserved about two months before the date.

Konstantyn and Mariya photograph a limited number of weddings each year, and a Balbianello day is planned around the slot FAI confirms. Wedding coverage starts from 7,000 EUR, with two photographers working on film and digital. Frequently Asked Questions About Villa del Balbianello Wedding Costs

How much does it cost to get married at Villa del Balbianello?

On the 2027 FAI table, rental runs from 4,200 EUR plus VAT for two hours with up to 10 people during opening hours to 28,900 EUR plus VAT for six private hours with up to 100 guests. The Monday or Wednesday lake terrace dinner for up to 130 is 70,500 EUR plus VAT. Chairs, housekeeping, boats, catering and town hall fees come on top.

Can we have Villa del Balbianello to ourselves?

Yes. Exclusive use is possible after 6pm on any day, or on Mondays and Wednesdays when the villa is closed to visitors. Groups above 50 people can only marry when the villa is closed, and in 2027 the open hours rates stop at 30 people.

How long can a wedding party stay at the villa?

FAI sells two, three and six hour windows. A full wedding day of six hours can be extended until 2:00 a.m. on request, at an additional fee.

Is the civil ceremony fee paid separately to the town hall?

Yes. The FAI rental covers the venue only. The town hall fee, set by the municipality of Tremezzina, and the interpreter are separate lines, and a symbolic ceremony carries a celebrant's fee instead.

Can we hold the wedding dinner at Villa del Balbianello?

Yes, but only when the villa is closed to visitors. Within the six hour format dinner can be held in and around Loggia Segrè, which FAI lists for dinners of up to 75. For up to 130 guests, the lake terrace package runs on Mondays and Wednesdays with a mandatory platform and marquee, and catering comes from the approved supplier list.

How do guests get to the villa and who pays for the boats?

Guests arrive by boat from Lido di Lenno or walk about 25 minutes uphill from Lenno. FAI does not operate the boats and they are not part of the rental, so they are a separate line in your wedding budget, booked with a private operator.
