What Couples Actually Spend on a Santorini Wedding
A realistic Santorini wedding cost in 2027 runs from about 9,000 to 13,000 EUR for a ten guest elopement, 22,000 to 32,000 EUR for around 50 guests and 50,000 to 80,000 EUR or more for a 100 guest celebration. Those are the ranges published by the Greek planning guide Big Fat Greek Day in its 2026 edition, and they are the most useful starting point because they come with line by line scenarios rather than a single headline number.
Other published figures sit around the same territory. EasyWedding.gr puts the average Santorini wedding at 15,000 to 60,000 EUR or more depending on guest count, season and venue, and BeachBride lists an average of 25,000 to 80,000 USD. The spread is wide because a caldera terrace in Oia or Imerovigli, a winery in the south of the island and a private villa price very differently, and because many quotes are written before VAT and service charges.
Konstantyn Zakhariy and Mariya Gritsak are based at Lake Como and travel to Greece for weddings, including Cami and Calvin's celebration across a full Santorini weekend. This article builds three budgets, shows what packages tend to leave out, explains when the shoulder season saves real money and where a two photographer team fits. Line by Line Budgets for 10, 50 and 100 Guests
The three budgets below follow the scenarios in the Big Fat Greek Day guide. They are typical figures for planning, not quotes, and every venue and supplier will price your date individually.
Ten guests: about 11,100 EUR. The guide's elopement scenario starts with a package of 3,700 EUR, which usually covers a planner, a short ceremony booking, a symbolic celebrant and limited photography. On top of that come a venue at around 800 EUR, a dinner at about 90 EUR per person, four nights for the couple at about 1,200 EUR, videography, hair and makeup and transport, plus around 2,100 EUR of VAT. The package price is less than a third of the realistic total, which is the single most common surprise for couples comparing elopement offers online.
Fifty guests: about 32,000 EUR. Here the guide uses Le Ciel, a caldera venue whose published fee is 4,200 EUR including VAT for six to nine hours. Catering and bar come to about 7,000 EUR, florals 3,500 EUR, planning 3,000 EUR, photography 2,500 EUR and videography 2,000 EUR, with a DJ, beauty, transport and the couple's stay added, plus about 5,400 EUR of VAT. Note that Le Ciel applies a 20 guest minimum from 20 May to 30 September and charges 190 EUR for each missing place below it, a rule worth knowing if your guest list is still moving.
One hundred guests: about 60,500 EUR. The luxury scenario allows 8,000 EUR for the venue, 14,000 EUR for catering and bar, 6,000 EUR for florals, 5,000 EUR for planning, 4,500 EUR for photography and 3,500 EUR for videography, with VAT of around 11,700 EUR. The guide notes that premium caldera venues can reach 14,000 EUR for exclusive use, and at this size the venue and the dinner together usually make up more than a third of the total.
Read across the three scenarios and the pattern is clear. Catering scales with every guest, while the venue, planner and creative team scale much less, which is why the cost per guest falls as the wedding grows but the total climbs quickly once you pass 50 people.
What Packages Leave Out: VAT, Service and Your Stay
Package prices on Santorini are designed to be compared, so they are often the smallest number on the page. Three lines regularly sit outside them.
VAT. The standard Greek VAT rate is 24%, and Big Fat Greek Day notes that many vendors quote prices exclusive of it. The EY summary of the 2019 Greek VAT reform explains that food served by restaurants and caterers carries the reduced 13% rate, while drinks consumed on site stay at the standard rate. In practice a dinner and a bar on one invoice may be taxed at two different rates, and planning, photography, music and rentals are usually taxed as services at 24%. BeachBride's example makes it concrete: a 10,000 EUR package becomes 12,400 EUR once VAT is added.
Service charges. Both Big Fat Greek Day and BeachBride report that venues and caterers often add a service charge of 10 to 20% on top of food and beverage totals, separate from VAT. On a 50 guest dinner and bar of 7,000 EUR that is another 700 to 1,400 EUR, so ask whether it applies and whether it is charged before or after VAT.
Your own stay. Nearly all elopement packages and venue fees exclude accommodation for the couple. Big Fat Greek Day estimates a four night stay at about 1,140 to 1,900 EUR in a mid range hotel in shoulder season, rising to 2,600 to 4,800 EUR for a luxury suite in peak season. A cave suite with a caldera view also tends to become the place where you get ready, so it does double duty in the photographs.
Legal paperwork. A legal civil ceremony needs certificates, apostilles and Greek translations. Big Fat Greek Day budgets about 1,000 to 1,500 EUR for documents, translations, officiant and coordinator help. We could not find a published fee schedule from the Municipality of Thira, so ask your planner for the current municipal fee in writing. Many couples do the legal step at home and hold a symbolic ceremony on the island instead.
If you are comparing coastlines, the same logic applies in Italy, where cliffside venues and transfers shape the bill. Our guide to how coastal weddings work on the Amalfi Coast covers that side of the decision.
Shoulder Season Savings and Where Photography Sits
Big Fat Greek Day defines the peak as July and August, the shoulder season as April to June and September to October, and the off season as November to March. Its 50 guest comparison between August and October shows catering falling by 20%, the planner and photography slightly lower, and the couple's accommodation dropping from 2,400 to 1,500 EUR. The couple's direct saving in that example is 2,800 EUR.
The larger saving lands on your guests. In the same example, return flights from the UK fall from around 340 EUR in August to around 120 EUR in October per person, about 11,000 EUR across 50 guests. For American families that money does not appear on your invoice, but it shapes how many people say yes. Late September and early October also bring softer evening light over the caldera and fewer cruise crowds in Oia and Fira, which makes portraits in the villages calmer.
Photography is where published budgets vary most. Big Fat Greek Day puts a full day of 8 to 10 hours at 1,500 to 3,500 EUR, with internationally recognised photographers at 4,000 EUR or more, and BeachBride notes that elopement packages often include just one to two hours. A full Santorini weekend asks for more than that. Cami and Calvin's celebration began with a helicopter arrival and traditional plate smashing at the welcome party, continued with a half day catamaran cruise, and ended with a cliffside ceremony overlooking the island and a sunset session on the dome. You can see how it unfolded in Cami and Calvin's three day Santorini wedding.
A weekend like that is the reason we work as two, one photographer with the couple and one with the guests, the boat and the details. Our post on why two photographers cover a weekend better explains how we split the day. Our weddings start from 7,000 EUR, net with VAT added on top, and travel to Greece is quoted separately once we know your dates and program. We photograph a limited number of weddings each year, so if Santorini is on your list, tell us about your plans and check your date with us.
Frequently Asked Questions About Santorini Wedding Cost
How much does a 50 guest wedding in Santorini cost?
Published 2026 scenarios put a 50 guest Santorini wedding at about 22,000 to 32,000 EUR, including VAT but before service charges. A caldera venue, a full planner and a larger floral design push you toward the top of that range.
Is VAT included in Santorini wedding package prices?
Often not. The standard Greek rate is 24%, catered food is taxed at 13% and drinks at 24%, and many packages show the price before VAT. Ask every supplier whether their quote is net or gross.
Is it cheaper to marry in Santorini in the shoulder season?
Yes. In the Big Fat Greek Day comparison, an October wedding for 50 guests saved the couple about 2,800 EUR over August, mostly through catering and accommodation, and guests saved far more on flights. April to June and September to October count as the shoulder season.
How much does a Santorini elopement cost?
Package prices start at a few thousand euros, but a realistic total for a ten guest elopement is about 9,000 to 13,000 EUR once the venue, dinner, your stay and VAT are added. For a sense of a small sunset celebration, see a sunset elopement in Oia.
How much should we budget for a Santorini wedding photographer?
Published local figures run from 1,500 to 3,500 EUR for a full day, with internationally recognised photographers from 4,000 EUR. Our two photographer coverage starts from 7,000 EUR plus VAT, with travel quoted for your dates.
Are Santorini wedding packages worth it?
They save time for small weddings, but they rarely include the venue, open bar, extended photography or your accommodation. Compare packages by their realistic total, not the headline price.
