Lake Como Wedding Venue Cost: What Villas and Hotels Charge

Three Ways Lake Como Venues Charge: Event Rental, Buyout or Menu and Rooms

A Lake Como wedding venue cost in 2026 runs from €3,900 plus VAT for a two hour ceremony at Villa del Balbianello to €250,000 for three days and 200 guests at Villa Balbiano, going by published fee tables. For a single wedding day at one of the best known villas or hotels, the planning agency WeddingItaly puts event only rental, without bedrooms, at €15,000 to €60,000.

Konstantyn and Mariya have photographed weddings at Lake Como villas and hotels for more than ten years, and the gap between two quotes for the same Saturday rarely comes from how grand a venue looks. It comes from what the fee buys. Lake Como venues charge in three ways, and knowing which one you are reading is the first step in comparing them.

Event only rental buys a set number of hours in the gardens and rooms, as at Villa del Balbianello or Villa Monastero, and items such as catering, chairs, a marquee and boat transfers are added on top. A buyout or exclusive package adds the bedrooms for one or more nights, which is how Villa Sola Cabiati rents by the night and how most Villa Balbiano packages are built. Menu and rooms is the hotel model: a price per guest for food and drink, a block of booked nights, and sometimes a separate charge for the space.

Below are the published fees villa by villa, the lines quotes leave out, and how your venue shapes the photography timeline. For everything beyond the venue, our Italy destination wedding cost breakdown for 2026 covers the other categories.

Published Venue Fee Ranges, Villa by Villa and Hotel by Hotel

Villa del Balbianello, managed by FAI (the Italian Environment Fund), has the clearest price table. Its 2026 rental fees, published by the planners at Italian Lakes Wedding, start at €3,900 for two hours in the Loggia Durini and the garden for photos with up to 10 guests, or €5,000 with up to 30, while the villa stays open to visitors. Once it closes to the public at 6pm, the same two hours cost €7,500 for up to 10 guests and €11,800 for up to 100.

A six hour wedding at Balbianello, with the ceremony in the loggia, aperitif in the camphor area and the Loggia Segrè, runs from €13,900 for 30 guests to €25,900 for 100. Dinner on the lake terrace for up to 130 guests is a single €65,000 package, offered only on Mondays and Wednesdays when the villa is closed to visitors, with a platform and marquee required. All of these figures carry 22% VAT on top.

Villa Monastero in Varenna works on a smaller scale. Its official booking page lists €3,500 including VAT for a symbolic ceremony with fewer than 30 guests (the 2025 rate still shown), covering one hour of exclusive use of the lakeside loggia plus up to three hours in the garden for setup and photos, shared with visitors. Two hours cost €4,200, and each hour outside opening times adds €300. A garden reception structure can be added from April to October at 2026 rates of €300 for setup plus €200 an hour in the day or €350 after 7pm, and receptions end by 11pm.

Buyout villas sit in another bracket. Tulle Together, which works from a crowdsourced database of venue pricing documents, lists Villa Balbiano at €50,000 for one day without rooms and up to 40 guests, €100,000 for two days and one night with up to 55, and €150,000 to €250,000 for three days and two nights with 55 to 200 guests. For Villa Sola Cabiati it shows 2026 nightly rates of €10,000, €15,000 and €20,000 plus 10% VAT for low, high and peak season, a three or four night minimum, and a further €10,000 plus VAT for an event of up to 40 guests, with no events between May 31 and September 20.

For hotels and the larger estates, WeddingItaly publishes event only ranges of €25,000 to €50,000 at Villa d'Este and €20,000 to €40,000 at Villa Erba, with a Villa d'Este buyout from €100,000 and Villa Pliniana from €165,000 to €198,000. Its €20,000 to €60,000 event only range for Villa Balbiano is far broader than the single €50,000 one day package above, so read every published number as a range to confirm. At the menu and rooms end, the Wedaways directory lists Hilton Lake Como with food and drink from €120 per guest and a requirement of 10 booked room nights.

Lines That Quotes Leave Out: VAT, Deposits, Minimum Nights and Overtime

Check VAT first. Italy's standard rate is 22%, while food and beverage service and hotel stays generally fall under the reduced 10% rate, so a single wedding can carry both. Ask every venue whether a figure is IVA inclusa (VAT included) or più IVA (plus VAT) before you compare.

The difference is not small. Balbianello's six hour rate for 100 guests, €25,900, becomes €31,598 once VAT is added, before a single chair is placed. Chairs are extra at about €10 plus VAT each, housekeeping for events over three hours is €300 plus VAT, the Loggia Segrè carries a compulsory enclosure fee, and a marquee, often compulsory for dinner, is a separate budget, according to Italian Lakes Wedding.

Published deposit terms sit far apart. Tulle Together reports a €35,000 refundable security deposit for main event packages at Villa Balbiano. Villa Monastero takes a deposit and a balance, and its terms charge 50% of the total for cancellation more than 60 days out and 100% within 60 days. Read the cancellation clause as closely as the price, since it decides how much of the fee is committed the day you sign.

Minimum nights turn a venue fee into an accommodation commitment. Even three nights at Villa Sola Cabiati's low season rate come to €33,000 with VAT, and the event fee for up to 40 guests adds €11,000, before any catering. Where the comune levies a tourist tax, it is added per guest per night on top of the room rate.

Overtime is the last surprise. Villa Balbiano charges €3,000 for each hour after 1am, Balbianello's full day is capped at six hours with an extension to 2am at an extra fee, and Villa Monastero adds €300 for each hour outside its opening times. Boat transfers to and from Balbianello are also billed separately. If the late party matters to you, price the last two hours before you sign, not on the night.

How the Venue Fee Shapes the Rest of the Budget and the Photo Timeline

The venue fee is only the first line of the budget. When Hello! reported in 2023 on a couple who married at Relais Villa Vittoria in Laglio, Lake Como planners had quoted them €120,000 to €200,000 for a single wedding day with 70 to 100 guests, before any rehearsal dinner or brunch. That was a whole wedding quote, not a venue fee. Our guide to where a Lake Como wedding budget actually goes breaks that down category by category.

The model you choose also decides what comes next. An event only villa needs a caterer, furniture, lighting, often a marquee and boats, all priced separately, while a buyout folds bedrooms and privacy into one figure and a hotel brings its own kitchen. Event only villas also narrow your supplier choice: Balbianello works from a limited list of approved suppliers and Villa Monastero has one exclusive caterer, so part of the catering budget is set the day you choose the venue. Compare venues at the same level of inclusion, never by headline fee alone.

For photography, the hours you rent are the hours you can photograph. At Balbianello, exclusive use on most days starts at 6pm, when the villa closes to visitors. Official sunset in Como falls around 9:20pm in late June and 7:40pm in mid September, so a June evening holds the ceremony, aperitif and portraits in good light, while a September wedding needs its portraits within the first ninety minutes.

At Villa Monastero the exclusive hour covers the ceremony itself and portraits happen in a garden shared with visitors, so we plan quieter corners in advance. For Balbianello, our Villa del Balbianello photography guide walks through the logistics and light of that villa in detail.

We photograph a limited number of weddings each year, with coverage from €7,000 for our two photographer team. If you are deciding between an event only villa and a buyout, send us both quotes and your date, and we will tell you how each timeline photographs before you commit. You can check your date with us, and see how a private estate photographs in a real private villa wedding at Villa Bonomi, Christine and Brandon's celebration at a period villa whose four acre terraced garden, designed by Pietro Porcinai, faces the lake.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lake Como Venue Costs

How much does it cost to rent a villa on Lake Como for a wedding?

Villa del Balbianello's 2026 table runs from €3,900 plus VAT for a short ceremony to €65,000 plus VAT for a six hour wedding with dinner on the lake terrace for up to 130 guests. Tulle Together lists Villa Balbiano from €50,000 for one day without rooms to €250,000 for three days with 200 guests. Treat each figure as a range to confirm for your date and guest count.

What is the difference between event only rental and a full villa buyout?

Event only rental gives you agreed spaces for a set number of hours, often after visitors have used the property earlier in the day. A buyout adds the villa's bedrooms for one or more nights, so at least your closest guests sleep where you celebrate.

Is VAT included in Lake Como venue quotes?

Not always, and one wedding can carry two rates: 22% on rental fees such as Balbianello's, and usually 10% on catering and rooms, as on Villa Sola Cabiati's nightly rate. Villa Monastero quotes its ceremony fee with VAT already included. Ask for IVA inclusa or più IVA on every line before comparing.

Do Lake Como villas require a minimum number of nights?

Several do. Villa Sola Cabiati asks for three or four nights depending on dates, and Italian Lakes Wedding notes that from April to October Relais Villa Vittoria in Laglio must be booked whole, all 12 rooms, for one to three nights. Hilton Lake Como counts room nights instead and requires 10 for a wedding. Event only venues such as Balbianello have no overnight element.

Are weekday or shoulder season dates cheaper at Lake Como venues?

Season makes the clearest difference in published rates: Villa Sola Cabiati's nightly rate doubles from €10,000 in low season to €20,000 in peak season. Italian Lakes Wedding notes that Saturdays cost more than other days at Balbianello. Our guide on how weeknight dates lower venue fees covers the tradeoffs for your guests.

How large is the deposit and when is it due?

There is no single standard. Tulle Together reports a €35,000 refundable security deposit at Villa Balbiano, while Villa Monastero takes its whole fee in advance, in two installments of deposit and balance, and charges the full amount for cancellations within 60 days. Ask your planner to set the payment schedule and the cancellation scale side by side for every venue on your shortlist.
