Why the Coast Costs More Than the Rest of Italy
The Amalfi Coast wedding cost for a full celebration averages about 50,000 EUR for 70 guests, according to Wedding Sparrow, and BeachBride puts a typical 30 to 80 guest wedding between 30,000 and 100,000 USD. An elopement for two usually lands between roughly 5,000 and 25,000 EUR, while a hotel buyout is a separate budget built around room nights.
Konstantyn Zakhariy and Mariya Gritsak are based at Lake Como and travel south for weddings on the coast, including a three day weekend at Borgo Santandrea above Conca dei Marini. This article explains why the coast sits at the top of Italian budgets, gives sourced sample budgets for three wedding sizes, and lists the costs that tend to surface late: town hall fees, music limits, boats and road rules.
The first reason is supply. Wedding Sparrow points out that the region has few wedding venues and hotels while tourist demand stays high, so the best terraces are booked by holidaymakers as well as couples. The hotels that do host weddings are small: BeachBride lists Palazzo Avino in Ravello with 43 rooms and receptions for up to 75 guests, and Le Sirenuse in Positano with 58 rooms and terrace ceremonies for up to 100.
The second reason is the cliff itself. Emiliano Russo, a photographer based on the coast, notes that vans stop far from most venues and equipment is often carried the last stretch on foot, which adds labour to flowers, lighting and catering. He also writes that venues and vendors in Positano tend to cost more than in other towns, with Atrani and Praiano the gentler options. For the wider picture, see the Italy destination wedding cost breakdown.
Sample Budgets: Elopement, 70 Guest Weekend and Buyout
The figures below are typical ranges taken from planners and vendors who publish their numbers, not quotes. Use them to size your budget before you ask venues for proposals.
Elopement for two: about 5,000 to 25,000 EUR. Emiliano Russo breaks his Amalfi Coast elopement estimate into three bands. Around 5,000 to 8,000 EUR covers one location, a symbolic ceremony, a celebrant, photography, a car for the day and personal flowers. Around 10,000 to 15,000 EUR adds a private terrace fee, coordination, a second location for portraits and a proper dinner. From 20,000 EUR you are paying for exclusive use of a property, a boat, full floral installations, hair and makeup with trials, video and day management. A Positano elopement usually sits toward the upper half of each band, because terrace fees there are higher.
A 70 guest weekend: about 50,000 EUR and often more. Wedding Sparrow's average of 50,000 EUR for 70 guests is a useful midpoint, and BeachBride's range of 30,000 to 100,000 USD shows how far venue choice and the all inclusive or à la carte format move the total. A full weekend on the coast normally means a welcome evening, the wedding and a day on the water, so plan the second and third events as real lines rather than extras. Your guests carry their own costs too: BeachBride estimates around 800 USD for a flight from the United States and about 450 USD per hotel night, which is worth sharing with them early.
A hotel buyout: a budget built from rooms. We did not find a published buyout figure we would trust, so work it out yourself. A buyout means taking every room for the hotel's minimum stay, usually several nights in high season, plus the food and beverage spend for each event. At a 58 room hotel such as Le Sirenuse, multiply the rooms by the minimum nights and the high season rate, and the room block quickly becomes the largest line in the budget. Buyouts suit couples who want the whole property and its privacy for the full weekend. Ask any hotel for its minimum nights, minimum spend and whether guests or you pay for the rooms.

Costs Couples Miss: Town Hall Fees, Music Curfews, Boats and ZTL
Town hall fees. A legal civil ceremony is booked through the comune, and fees on the coast vary sharply by town. For Positano, the Amalfi Wedding Planner lists 2024 town hall fees of 1,000 EUR from Monday to Friday and 1,800 EUR on Saturday for the terrace overlooking the sea. In Amalfi, the same source lists 350 EUR for the Salone Morelli on weekday mornings, 500 EUR on weekday afternoons and 650 EUR at weekends, with the historic Arsenali at 500 to 800 EUR and a seated limit of about 70 guests in the town hall. Emiliano Russo notes that residents of Amalfi pay a flat 77 EUR, so the scale is effectively what visiting couples pay. We could not find a published fee schedule for Ravello, so ask the comune directly. Hotels that host civil ceremonies may also charge their own venue fee on top of the town hall rate.
Music limits. Sources do not agree on the hour. Wedding Sparrow says most places in Italy impose a strict limit on outdoor noise after 10pm and that local authorities can grant an extension if you apply well in advance. Emiliano Russo writes that a municipal ordinance limits outdoor music after midnight. In practice the rule that matters is the one in your venue contract and your town, so ask both before you book the band. If the answer is an early cut off, budget for an indoor space or a second room for the late party, since moving the dance floor indoors is often a separate rental.
Boats. A day on the water is part of most coast weekends and it is rarely cheap. Blue Keys lists a full day private boat from Amalfi to Positano and Li Galli from about 1,070 EUR for the whole boat, with a skipper and fuel included, for up to 8 guests. For a group of 40, that means several boats, so price the boat day per boat rather than per person.
Road rules and ZTL. The SS163 Amalfitana runs alternate plate restrictions between Vietri sul Mare and Positano on set dates, from 10am to 6pm, according to Positano.com and Napolike. Guests with a hotel booking, taxis and chauffeured cars are exempt, but a rented car may not be allowed on the road on a given day. Positano also has a ZTL on Via Pasitea, Piazza dei Mulini and Via Colombo for vehicles with more than five seats, with a 5 EUR fee per trip, which affects guest minibuses. Build buffer time and a few extra transfer fees into every schedule.
Photography Costs and Becca and Timothy's Borgo Santandrea Weekend
Photography is a line you should plan for early, because on the coast it also covers more ground. A weekend usually involves a welcome evening, the ceremony in one place, dinner in another and a day on a boat, and each of those needs travel time between towns and terraces. Our Amalfi Coast wedding photographer guide covers how we plan coverage across the coast, and our post on photographing a wedding in Positano explains how its steps and terraces shape the day.
We photograph as a team of two, on film and digital, so one of us can stay with the couple while the other works with guests and details. That matters on the coast, where the getting ready room, the ceremony terrace and the dinner may sit on different levels of the same cliff.
Borgo Santandrea is a good example. The hotel sits on the cliff at Amalfi, about 90 metres above the sea, overlooking the fishing village of Conca dei Marini, as Dezeen describes it. You can see how a full weekend looks in Becca and Timothy's wedding at Borgo Santandrea: a welcome dinner and pizza party, the wedding itself, and on day three a boat tour to Positano. For your own budget, the useful lesson is that the welcome evening and the boat day are where many of the most relaxed photographs happen, so they deserve coverage rather than a gap in the plan.
Our weddings start from 7,000 EUR, net with VAT added, and multi day coverage is quoted around the shape of your weekend. We photograph a limited number of weddings each year, so we can give each one our full attention from the first call. If you have a town or a venue in mind, send us your date and a rough outline of the days and check your date with us; we are happy to tell you how we would plan the photography around your schedule.
Frequently Asked Questions About Amalfi Coast Wedding Cost
How much does a wedding on the Amalfi Coast cost?
Wedding Sparrow gives an average of about 50,000 EUR for 70 guests, and BeachBride shows a range of 30,000 to 100,000 USD for 30 to 80 guests. Elopements for two typically run from about 5,000 to 25,000 EUR, and hotel buyouts sit in a separate category priced by room nights.
Is the Amalfi Coast more expensive than Lake Como for a wedding?
Both are among the most expensive places to marry in Italy. On the coast, costs rise because there are few venues and hotels, much of the logistics runs by boat or on foot, and Positano is pricier than neighbouring towns. Our comparison post sets the two regions side by side.
How much does a Positano elopement cost?
Published elopement bands on the coast run from about 5,000 to 25,000 EUR for two. Positano tends to sit in the upper part of each band, and a legal ceremony at the town hall adds a fee that the Amalfi Wedding Planner listed at 1,000 EUR on weekdays and 1,800 EUR on Saturdays in 2024.
Do non residents pay extra to marry in Amalfi Coast town halls?
In Amalfi, yes in effect: residents pay a flat 77 EUR according to Emiliano Russo, while visiting couples pay the hall scale of roughly 350 to 800 EUR. For Positano and Ravello we found no published resident split, so ask the comune for its current schedule in writing.
Can we have music outdoors after 10pm on the Amalfi Coast?
It depends on the town and the venue. Some sources cite a 10pm limit on outdoor noise, others a midnight ordinance, and extensions may be possible with an early application. Confirm the rule with your venue and comune before booking musicians.
When is the least expensive time to marry on the Amalfi Coast?
Shoulder season is gentler than peak months, as BeachBride notes. Some civil venues also have lower winter rates, but most coastal ferries stop in late October, so very late dates save money while making boats and guest travel harder.
