Lake Como Wedding Planner Cost: Fees, Percentages and Scope

How Lake Como Planners Price Their Work

A Lake Como wedding planner cost for full planning and coordination usually sits between 6,000 and 10,000 EUR for a wedding of up to about 100 guests, according to the 2026 cost guides published by WeddingItaly and the Weddings Abroad Guide. Planners who work on a percentage instead quote roughly 10 to 20% of the total wedding budget, and large multi day productions with full design can go well beyond that.

Those two numbers explain most of the quotes you will receive, but they hide three details that change the final figure: whether Italian VAT is included, whether the planner also earns commission from vendors, and how many days and venues the planner actually has to run. A 6,000 EUR quote and a 9,000 EUR quote can end up costing the same once those lines are added.

Konstantyn Zakhariy and Mariya Gritsak photograph weddings at Lake Como with planners every season, and the way a planner prices their work shapes how the whole day runs, including our part of it. This article stays on money: the fee models, typical ranges with the reasoning behind them, what coordination only and elopement packages cost, and the VAT and travel lines that are easy to miss.

If you are still deciding whether you need a planner at all, read what a Lake Como wedding planner actually does first. For the planner fee in the context of the whole budget, our Italy destination wedding cost breakdown for 2026 shows where it sits next to the venue, catering, flowers and photography.

Flat Fee vs Percentage of Budget

The flat fee. Most planners who specialise in foreign couples at Lake Como quote a fixed fee for an agreed scope. WeddingItaly lists its planning and coordination fee at 6,000 to 10,000 EUR, which it says includes a senior planner and two to three coordinators, and its own sample budgets show 6,000 to 8,000 EUR for an intimate wedding and 8,000 to 12,000 EUR for a larger celebration. Exclusive Italy Weddings states that it does not work on a percentage and sets its fee by event complexity and the number of days it plans and coordinates.

The advantage for you is predictability. If you upgrade the flowers or add a second boat, the planner fee does not move, so nobody earns more because you spend more.

The percentage model. Other planners charge a share of the total budget. The Weddings Abroad Guide puts the range at 10 to 20%, La Lista cites 10 to 15% as common, and THE WED, a planner directory, reports that Italian studios usually quote 12 to 18% when the job combines design and production. Federconsumatori data reported by ItaliaOggi in June 2026 puts the Italian average at around 10%.

Here is how the math works on a real Lake Como scale. On a 100,000 EUR wedding, 10% is 10,000 EUR, close to the top of the flat fee band. On a 200,000 EUR villa weekend, 15% is 30,000 EUR. Percentage pricing makes sense for large designed weddings where the planner is building sets, managing many vendors and running several events. For a mid sized wedding at one venue, a flat fee is usually the cheaper and clearer option.

Commission, the third income line. In Italy some planners also receive commission from the vendors they book, and it is not always disclosed. La Lista gives the example of a 10% commission on a 5,000 EUR vendor fee: either the vendor absorbs it, or it lands on your invoice as 5,500 EUR. WeddingItaly describes three models in use: commission only with no planning fee, a flat fee, and a planning fee plus disclosed commissions. None of these is wrong in itself. What matters is that you know which one you are paying for, so ask every planner directly and have the answer written into the contract.

Full Planning, Coordination Only and Elopement Packages

Full planning. This covers the months before the wedding: venue search and site visits, vendor selection, contracts, design, guest logistics such as boats and shuttles, the timeline, and a team on site for the day. At Lake Como that is the 6,000 to 10,000 EUR band for most weddings up to about 100 guests. THE WED reports that full destination planning in Italy typically runs from 18,000 to 80,000 EUR, and that range reflects large multi day weddings where design and production sit inside the planner's fee. The jump comes from scale: a three day weekend with a welcome dinner, a ceremony at one villa and a reception at another needs more site visits, more vendors and more coordinators than one evening at one hotel.

Coordination only. Here you book the vendors yourself and the coordinator takes over in the final weeks, confirms everyone, builds the run sheet and manages the day. Federconsumatori figures reported by ItaliaOggi put day of coordination in Italy at roughly 1,000 to 3,500 EUR. Treat that as a floor rather than a Lake Como quote: the data covers Italian weddings in general, while planners serving foreign couples work in English, often step in months before the date and have to coordinate boats and venue time windows they did not plan. THE WED notes that partial planning and on site coordination are usually sold as fixed packages, so ask for exactly how many weeks before the date the package begins. Our comparison of day of coordinator vs full planner explains which weddings can manage with coordination only.

Elopements. Published elopement fees are scarce, and most planners quote them individually. As one documented reference point, a luxury Lake Como elopement detailed by the Weddings Abroad Guide in 2018 listed a planning fee of 2,196 EUR within a total of 15,337 EUR, including seven nights at a hotel. That fits the logic of the market: an elopement still needs the ceremony booking, the officiant or civil paperwork, a boat and a timeline, but there is no guest logistics, no dinner and usually only one coordinator. Expect a fee in the low thousands rather than the full planning band, and confirm whether paperwork for a legal ceremony is included or charged separately.

Site visits. Whatever the package, check how site inspections are charged. Exclusive Italy Weddings, for example, states that a charge applies depending on the location and number of venues you want to visit. If you plan to fly over to see three villas, that line belongs in your comparison.

VAT, Travel and How Planner and Photographer Share the Timeline

VAT. The standard VAT rate in Italy has been 22% since October 2013, and it applies to planning services. THE WED notes that Italian VAT at 22% is generally additional to planner quotes and should be confirmed in the proposal. On an 8,000 EUR fee that is 1,760 EUR, which is enough to reverse the order of two quotes. When you compare proposals, write every one down as a net figure and a gross figure side by side, and ask the same question of every Italian vendor, including us: our photography prices are net, with VAT added on top.

Travel and extras. Planners based in Milan or elsewhere may bill travel and accommodation for the team on the wedding weekend and for site visits. Additional coordinators for a second event, late finishes after midnight and a rehearsal at the venue can also sit outside the base fee. Ask for the number of coordinators included per event, and the price of each additional one, before you sign.

The timeline. On the day, the planner owns the schedule and the photographers work inside it, so the earlier you bring the two together, the better the day runs. At Lake Como the timeline is shaped by boats, villa time windows and the time of sunset, and a good planner will ask us how long portraits at the water need and where the light falls at the hour of the aperitivo. We send the planner our suggested timings for getting ready, the boat transfer and golden hour, and the planner fits them around the venue rules and the kitchen. When the planner fee is low because the scope is coordination only, that conversation often happens late, and it is one of the hidden costs of the cheapest option. Our guide on how to choose your Lake Como wedding planner covers the questions to ask before you sign.

For a sense of what a fully planned weekend looks like in photographs, see Brittany and Jason's three day weekend at Villa del Balbianello, which began at Villa Serbelloni in Bellagio and was organised with a planner. We photograph a limited number of weddings each year, always as a team of two, and weddings start from 7,000 EUR. Once you have a planner and a date, check your date with us and we will share timings with your planner from the first draft.

Frequently Asked Questions About Lake Como Wedding Planner Fees

How much does a wedding planner cost at Lake Como?

For full planning and coordination of a wedding of up to about 100 guests, the 2026 guides we read put most fees at 6,000 to 10,000 EUR, usually before VAT. Large multi day weddings with full design, or planners charging a percentage of a high budget, can reach 20,000 EUR and more.

Do Italian wedding planners charge a percentage of the budget?

Some do, typically 10 to 20% of the total budget, with 12 to 18% common when design and production are included. Many planners who work with foreign couples prefer a flat fee for a defined scope, so you will likely see both models when you compare quotes.

Is VAT included in a wedding planner's quote in Italy?

Often not. The standard Italian VAT rate is 22%, and planner quotes are frequently given net with VAT added on the invoice. Ask each planner to confirm in writing whether the figure is net or gross.

Do planners earn commission from vendors?

Some do, and in Italy it is not always disclosed. It can be absorbed by the vendor or added to your invoice. Ask directly whether the planner receives commission, how it is calculated, and have the answer written into the contract.

Do we need a full planner for an elopement?

Usually not. An elopement needs the ceremony booking, paperwork if the ceremony is legal, a boat and a short timeline, which an elopement package or a coordinator can handle for a fee in the low thousands. A full planner becomes worthwhile when you add a dinner, guests or a second venue.

Is a day of coordinator enough for a Lake Como wedding?

It can be for a small wedding at a single hotel that has its own events team. Once boats, a separate reception venue or a multi day weekend are involved, the logistics usually justify partial or full planning, and the difference in fee is smaller than the cost of a day that runs late.
